On September 20 and September 21, 2023, the Environmental Safety and Health (EHS) department conducted laboratory safety training lectures for new students in the entrance education, with a total of about 870 undergraduate and graduate students participating.
The laboratory safety entrance lecture aims to introduce the importance of laboratory safety, cultivate students' safety awareness, strengthen their overall understanding of laboratory safety, introduce our school's laboratory safety management functional organization, and lay a foundation for students to smoothly carry out scientific research and study work in the laboratory in the future. The training supervisor of the Environmental Safety and Health (EHS) department, Jin Jin, introduced the departmental functions, organizational structure, and team division of the EHS department to everyone. Subsequently, classic cases of safety accidents in university laboratories were introduced, introducing an introduction to laboratory safety from several aspects: understanding the laboratory (ID hazards and safety signs), personal protection and behavioral safety, and emergency equipment and measures in the laboratory. Teacher Huang emphasized the identification of laboratory risk sources, precautions and related knowledge for controlled chemicals, as well as specialized safety measures such as biosafety and radiation safety.
The laboratory safety entrance education aims to emphasize the importance of laboratory safety, cultivate new students' safety awareness, strengthen the overall understanding of laboratory safety, and lay a foundation for the smooth implementation of scientific research and learning work through typical laboratory safety accident cases. The Environmental Safety and Health Department will continue to carry out various forms of EHS safety culture education, further enhancing the safety awareness of teachers and students, and creating a good safety culture atmosphere.
