In order to improve the fire safety awareness of teachers and students on campus, effectively prevent fire accidents in winter, and create a safe and stable campus environment, on November 21, 2022, ShanghaiTech University conducted a series of activities such as fire emergency drills, immersive fire scene escape, and fire extinguisher practical operation, carried out fire safety knowledge publicity and training, and further improved emergency response capabilities.

With the theme of Pay attention to fire protection, life first, this activity attracted many teachers and students to actively participate in the fun and education with a variety of activities, enhanced the fire safety awareness of our teachers and students, enhanced the ability to practice and deal with emergencies, and laid a solid foundation for the construction of a harmonious campus, safe campus. Activity 1: Emergency evacuation of the laboratory of the human character building

Activity 2: Fire protection knowledge explanation and display + simulation electronic fire extinguishing experience

The fire instructor explained the common types of fires in Class A, B and C and the three common fire extinguishers (dry chemical fire extinguishers, carbon dioxide fire extinguishers and water-based fire extinguishers) and their applicable scenarios, and teachers and students learned how to use fire extinguishers correctly through fire extinguishing electronic training instruments.

Activity 3: Immersive fire scene smoke escape experience

The hot smoke environment escape system uses acousto-optic and smoke virtual reality technology to simulate the state of smoke in corridors and rooms when a fire occurs. Teachers and students enter a smoke-filled and unlit closed tent, need to explore the progress according to the on-site safety warning signs, and use the escape essentials of covering their mouths and noses, keeping a low posture, paying attention to the path under their feet, and quickly and orderly in the process to evacuate in an orderly manner.

Activity 4: Fire extinguisher extinguishing open flames

The practical experience of fire extinguishers is mainly to allow teachers and students to master the essentials when using them, such as choosing the upwind direction and aiming at the root of the flame; Use a carbon dioxide fire extinguisher to avoid touching the outer wall of the horn barrel or the metal connecting pipe, prevent hand frostbite, etc. Through practice, acquire the ability to extinguish the first fire.
