On December 9, the ShanghaiTech University team successfully advanced to the finals in the 2022 Shengle Cup Shanghai College Student Laboratory Safety Competition. Our team performed well and finally won the 2nd Prize.
This competition is guided by the Safety Office of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, the Security Professional Committee of Shanghai Higher Education Association, and the Shanghai University Laboratory Management Research Association, and organized by Shanghai Ocean University, and 16 teams from ShanghaiTech University, Tongji University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, East China Normal University, and Shanghai Ocean University etc., participated in the competition online.
The three students representing ShanghaiTech University are: Xue Lulu (School of Life Science and Technology (SLST), 2019 doctoral student), Lu Guanyu (School of Physical Science and Technology, 2022 master's student), Liang Yibo (SLST 2022 undergraduate student), and Liu Weixuan, 2022 master's student of the SPST, as the team leader.
Round 1 Coming to The Fore
In the first part, team members were calm and relaxed, and they passed the hurdles all the way. After rounds of Solo Show and Team Show, the team is ranked among top players.
After the subsequent Inter-team Show and Knowing and Race-to-Answer sessions, the team ranked top and directly advanced to the final round.
Round 2 Group Showdown
After the previous round of competition, the competition entered the most intense group showdown, and the ten teams that entered the final round were Shanghai Jiao Tong University, East China Normal University, ShanghaiTech University, Shanghai Institute of Technology, Donghua University, Shanghai University of Electric Power, Shanghai Polytechnic University, Shanghai Normal University, Shanghai Maritime University and Shanghai University. Our team maintained a good competitive state in the final round, and successfully passed the four rounds of racing to answer, “sharp eye and quick hands, you answer my questions and sharpening eyes, and finally won the second prize among 16 teams.
This is the second consecutive year that students from our university have participated in the laboratory safety competition, and the participants have achieved excellent results in the laboratory safety knowledge online competition held by the Office of Environment, Health and Safety in October this year.
The contestants prepared actively, persevered and strived for the top under the guidance of the teachers of the Office of Environment, Health, and Safety, and finally relied on the in-depth study of the competition topics by the team members, their own experimental experience, and the calm performance in the process of the competition, which fully demonstrated the importance of laboratory safety culture, mastery of safety knowledge and skill training of students in Shanghai University.
The questions of this laboratory safety knowledge competition is divided into six categories: general knowledge, electrical, chemical, biological, mechanical and radiation, to promote learning, guide college students to actively learn laboratory safety knowledge, eliminate laboratory safety hazards, and boost understanding in hazardous waste disposal. At the same time, the competition implemented the spirit of the Opinions of the Ministry of Education on Strengthening the Safety Work of Laboratories in Colleges and Universities and Notice on Further Strengthening the Safety Management of Laboratories in All Types of Schools at All Levels in the City, which will help improve the safety awareness of teachers and students in colleges and universities, enhance their safety protection capabilities, create a safety culture atmosphere for campus laboratories, and improve the safety management level of colleges and universities.
