(I)            Laboratory Access Rules

1.     Any person entering a laboratory should obtain the corresponding training and pass the relevant training exam, and meet all other laboratory requirements prior to entry.

2.     Familiarize yourself with the laboratory environment, potential risks as well as escape and emergency protocols and take proper safety protection measures, before entering the laboratory.

3.     New members should perform experiments according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety precautions. Only when safety precautions are available and ready can one conduct experiments.

4.     Tie long hair back, and wear encapsulating protective clothing and shoes. Do not wear sandals, short skirts, or shorts in a laboratory.

5.     Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) to enter the laboratory work area. Check the application scope, useful life and completeness of PPE before use, and familiarize yourself with its application and maintenance methods.

6.     Follow all of the laboratory rules, strictly implement operating procedures, and maintain laboratory records.

7.     It’s forbidden to open a door while wearing personal protective gloves. It’s strictly forbidden to leave the laboratory without taking off laboratory protective clothing. Never bring any laboratory items outside the work area.

8.     Laboratory doors should always be kept closed. Ensure water, gas and electricity are turned off, doors and windows closed, and records maintained before leaving the laboratory.

(II) Laboratory Behavioral Rules

1.      Laboratories are for scientific research and studies. Keep lab benches clean and tidy. Keep laboratories quiet and organized.

2.      Do not eat, drink, smoke, apply cosmetics or handle contact lenses in the laboratory work area. Recreational activities are not permitted in laboratories.

3.      Any laboratory personnel are not supposed to leave the experiment unattended during laboratory work and, if necessary, should have it attended by others.

4.      Work only with infectious materials once you know the infectiousness characteristics of microorganisms, attention points of operations, protective measures, post-test disinfection procedures, and emergency responses.

5.      Handle chemical and radioactive substances with care, be aware of the hazards, and follow safety rules strictly. Do not discharge chemical and radioactive waste by tipping it directly into drainage pipes.

6.      Check the operating state of laboratory apparatus and equipment, and register and record their information in a timely manner as may be required before and after their use. Apparatus’ standard operating procedures must be strictly followed.

7.      Corresponding training and certification are required for special positions and special equipment.

8.      Read safety data sheets (SDS) to familiarize yourself with health hazards, personal preventive measures and other safety information before using chemicals.

9.      Familiarize yourself with the laboratory environment, location and use of sprinkler, fireproof blanket, fire extinguisher and other safety equipment.

10.   Avoid performing experiments alone, where possible, for the sake of timely detection and rescue of accidents.

11.   Don’t wear earphones during the laboratory work, otherwise you can neither detect accidents in time nor give timely assistance to others.

12.   Keep laboratories clean and tidy. Manage and mark your samples; clean and dry glass apparatuses in time after the experiment, clean up the garbage and liquid waste in time, and keep the workbench clean and tidy; and return chemical products and tools in time after use. Laboratory waste should be treated in time and not block the exit passageway.

13.   Report to the laboratory safety officers and laboratory supervisors in time once detecting any laboratory safety loophole.
