During Orientation Week, the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Office gives presentations on laboratory safety for undergraduates and graduate freshmen.
At the beginning, Director Wang Dongming of the EHS Office introduced the departmental functions, organizational structure and the team, emphasized the importance of laboratory safety, and introduced that the purpose of this training is to promote laboratory safety awareness, improve safety skills, and ensure laboratory safety.
Next, EHS training supervisor Huang Jin explained the laboratory safety overview from the aspects of understanding the laboratory (ID hazard sources and safety signs), personal protection and behavioral safety, and laboratory emergency equipment and measures.
In the orientation training for graduate students, Zhang Meiling, a chemistry expert from the EHS Division, introduced laboratory chemical safety, precautions for controlled chemicals and related knowledge; biological expert Dr. Ruiqing Li introduced biological safety related knowledge such as identification of biological risk factors in the laboratory.
The training had a good interaction with the students and achieved the expected results. The Department of Environmental Safety and Health will continue to carry out different forms of EHS safety culture education in order to improve the safety awareness of teachers and students and cultivate a safety culture atmosphere.
